ATLANTA — Atlanta United closed out their home schedule with a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC on Sunday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Five Stripes came out with good energy, but goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos was called into action early, making a key save in the fifth minute. Atlanta eventually broke through in the 22nd minute, with Miguel Almirón finishing a combination play set up by Alexey Miranchuk. Just before halftime, Cooper Sanchez extended the lead to 2-0 with a first-time finish off an assist from Almirón.

Atlanta carried that momentum into the second half, finding their third goal in the 51st minute. Miranchuk was in the right place to finish the rebound after Almirón’s attempt hit the post. The hosts continued creating chances throughout the match, with Breel Embolo and substitute Jay Fortune coming close to adding another. Toronto managed to get on the scoreboard in the 79th minute through substitute Lewis Morgan, who capitalized on a rebound to make it 3-1. Atlanta remained in control during the closing minutes to secure the win, snap a six-game home winless streak and officially eliminate Toronto FC from MLS Cup Playoffs contention.
