FC MONTERREY 2-1 TOLUCA FC
Oct 3, 2026 • Shell Energy Stadium
HOUSTON — CF Monterrey defeated Toluca FC 2-1 Saturday night, October 3, at Shell Energy Stadium in an international friendly. The match served as a rematch of the 2026 Leagues Cup Final, where Toluca defeated Monterrey 2-0 at the same stadium just 27 days earlier.
After a scoreless opening half, Toluca broke through shortly after halftime when Paulinho scored in the 46th minute following a series of rebounds inside the box. The intensity of the match continued to build with tensions rising near the end of the first half as Djuka, Monterrey’s forward, and Jorge Diaz Price, Toluca’s midfielder, became involved in a heated confrontation.
Monterrey responded in the second half with several substitutions, including the entrance of Jesus “Tecatito” Corona, while Toluca brought on Alexis Vega. Vega later became involved in another heated exchange alongside Erick Gutierrez “Guti". Monterrey gained an advantage after Toluca’s Pavel Perez was shown a red card in the 79th minute, giving Rayados the upper hand. Hugo Cuypers tied the match in the 83rd minute before Diego Rossi completed the comeback with a finish in the 88th minute, giving Monterrey a 2-1 victory in Houston. The comeback gave Rayados a measure of revenge after their Leagues Cup Final defeat.
