LOS ANGELES — San Jose Earthquakes stunned LAFC 4–1 at BMO Stadium on Sunday night, ending Hugo Lloris’ record-threatening shutout streak and handing the hosts their first home defeat of the season.
The first half was tight and largely uneventful. San Jose actually outshot LAFC 8–3 in the opening 45 minutes , though neither side truly threatened. The game burst to life in the second half — and when it did, it was all San Jose.
Three goals arrived in a six-minute span. Ousseni Bouda opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, ending Lloris’ remarkable run of 593 consecutive scoreless minutes — a club record. Werner doubled the lead three minutes later with his first MLS goal, slotting past Lloris after being found by Beau Leroux. A Ryan Porteous own goal in the 59th minute made it 3–0 before LAFC could even respond.
LAFC pulled one back through a Reid Roberts own goal in the 74th minute, but Bouda ended any hope of a comeback with his second of the night in the 80th.
It was just San Jose’s second ever regular-season win at BMO Stadium , and it wasn’t close.
San Jose moved to 7–1–0 and drew level with Vancouver at the top of the Western Conference on 21 points. LAFC, meanwhile, saw their 11-game home unbeaten streak come to a jarring end.
Key stats:
LAFC edged possession (52.6%–47.4%) and led in total shots (16–12), but San Jose were more clinical, putting more on target (5–3) and finishing their chances. LAFC had five corners to San Jose’s three, while both sides recorded three yellow cards. San Jose’s efficiency in front of goal proved the difference despite LAFC’s control of the ball.
