NASHVILLE — Nashville hosted what would become their final Leagues Cup match of their season, falling 2-1 to CF Monterrey on Wednesday August 12.
Though NSC started off with a strong goal almost immediately into the start of the match, the Boys in Gold were unable to hold the lead against LIGA MX’s CF Monterrey. Ahmed Qasem opened up the scoring with a goal just 21 seconds after the starting whistle, the fastest in Nashville SC history.
Monterrey’s Orbelín Pineda found the net early in the second half with an assist from Diego Rossi in the 51st minute to level the score. Hugo Cuypers solidified their win in extra time, avoiding the chance at a penalty shooutout.
Next up, NSC are back at home to face a long awaited battle vs Lionel Messi and Inter Miami on Saturday August 15th, 7:30pm CT. Nashville are looking to protect their top spot in the League and take another step towards earning their first ever Supporters Shield title.
