SAN DIEGO — LAFC came back from 2–0 down to tie San Diego FC 2–2 in a really entertaining match that had a bit of everything, goals, momentum swings, and even some controversy at the end.
San Diego started off way sharper. You could tell early they were more comfortable, pressing high and forcing LAFC into mistakes. That pressure paid off when Marcus Ingvartsen got on the end of a ball into the box and finished to make it 1–0. LAFC just looked a step slow, especially in possession, holding onto the ball too long and making it easy for San Diego to stay organized.
Things got worse for LAFC later when they turned the ball over in their own half, and Ingvartsen made them pay again. His first touch set everything up and he buried it for his second goal of the night, putting San Diego up 2–0. At that point, it honestly felt like the game was slipping away from LAFC.
But then LAFC finally woke up. Denis Bouanga pulled one back with a strong finish at the near post, and you could feel the momentum start to shift. From there, LAFC kept pushing, creating chances and forcing San Diego deeper and deeper.
The equalizer came late off a corner, with Ryan Hollingshead finding the ball in a crowded box and finishing to make it 2–2. San Diego players were upset, thinking there was a handball in the buildup, but the goal stood.
Both teams had moments at the end, but neither could find a winner.
In the end, it feels like two different stories. San Diego will probably feel like they should’ve won after going up 2–0, while LAFC will take the point after fighting back and showing some resilience on the road.
