SOUNDERS FC 2-2 CHICAGO FIRE

Aug 29, 2026
Att: 38,287 • Lumen Field

SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders faced the Chicago Fire for their first matchup of the season. Lumen Field was lit up with 38,287 fans, all in anticipation of our newest signing, Dejan Joveljić's debut. Joveljić has been the club's first summer signing in 5 years. After the Sounders front office faced intense scrutiny from the Rave Green regarding the teams recent short comings, fans filled the stands and held their breath when the match began, wondering if Joveljić’s debut could be the missing piece.

Twelve minutes after kickoff, Joveljić had fans jumping out of their seats. Sebastian Gomez passed the assist for Joveljić to place the ball in the back of the net. Chicago continued to put on a show, taking various shots on goal, which Andrew Thomas denied. Thomas remained a brick wall until Maren Haile-Selassie secured Chicago’s first goal at 38 minutes.

After the half, Joveljić came back onto the pitch hungry as ever. He netted his second of his debut game at 48 minutes, receiving the assist from Snyder Brunell. In the 82 minute Robert Lewandowski scored the equalizer, ending the game in a draw.
