ATLANTA — Inter Miami secured a 3-1 victory over Atlanta United on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, led by an outstanding performance from Lionel Messi.
After a competitive first half, German Berterame opened the scoring in the 45th minute with a header off a cross from Luis Suarez, giving Miami a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Messi took control in the second half, scoring twice in the 56th and 60th minutes to extend Miami’s advantage to 3-0.
Atlanta United continued to search for a response, and Fafa Picault converted a penalty in the 89th minute to put the home side on the scoreboard.
However, the late goal was not enough to change the result, as Inter Miami secured all three points with a 3-1 victory. Despite Atlanta’s efforts, Messi’s two-goal performance proved to be the difference.
