AUSTIN — On a hot Texas night, 20,738 fans attended an intense game where it turned into a tie.

Austin FC and Philadelphia Union battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. Austin FC came close to taking the lead in the first half, but Philadelphia struck first on the 18th minute by Cavan Sullivan, making his second career MLS goal off a corner kick. Fortunately, Austin FC made their comeback 3 minutes later, with Joseph Rosales making a cross to defender Brendan Hines-Ike, heading it in, bringing it to a match level.

Union Goalkeeper Andre Blake made a big save on Myrto Uzuni before Jon Gallagher’s shot hit the post. Danley Jean Jacques, from Union, also struck the post in the 53rd minute, creating a very close chance to make another goal. Also, Austin’s defense was very hard to beat when Union had their final chance to score.

Austin FC finished with 52% possession, 5 shots on goal, and a passing accuracy with 86%, whereas Philadelphia Union had a 48% rate in possession, 3 shots on goal, and a passing accuracy of 84% which is pretty close to Austin FC. Philadelphia was more aggressive defensively, recording 12 tackles and committing 13 fouls compared with Austin’s 7 fouls.

There was a lot of back and forth intense action, but neither team could beat each other and both sides came to a draw.
