CHICAGO — New England Revolution came into Chicago and pulled off a 2-1 upset on September 13th, despite getting completely outplayed for most of the afternoon. New England grabbed a goal right before halftime in the 39th minute and then struck again just two minutes into the second half to go up 2-0. Chicago drew one back through a 62nd minute goal by Haile Selassie but couldn't find the equalizer despite throwing everything at the Revolution defense at the end of the match.
Chicago had 55% possession and put up 20 total shots to New England's 4 but they couldn't turn that pressure into more than one goal. Matt Turner was the difference maker in net for New England, making the saves he needed to when it mattered, while Robert Lewandowski and the Fire attack just couldn't break through. It's a frustrating result for the Fire, who now sit with just one win in their last several outings, while New England will happily take the road points against the run of play.
