UIC 2-0 WESTERN ILLINOIS

CHICAGO — UIC took on Western Illinois on September 10th, and Junior midfielder Martin Montoya was the whole story as he scored both goals in the first half to carry UIC to a 2-0 win over Western Illinois.
He opened the scoring in the 20th minute off a nicely weighted pass from Carlos Nevarez and then doubled up in the 44th minute right before the break to put the game away early. It was part of a Hispanic Heritage Night doubleheader at UIC as a solid crowd of 807 showed up to watch.
The win marked a nice bounce back for UIC (1-3-1), who came into the match off a 10-day layoff and needed a good result to open their home schedule. Western Illinois struggled to generate much going forward and couldn't find an answer to the two early goals and left Flames Field with the loss. UIC will look to keep the momentum going as they continue their five-match homestand.
