The New York Red Bulls came into Soldier Field and handed the Chicago Fire a tough 3–1 defeat on Saturday afternoon. The Red Bulls were clinical despite controlling just 41% of possession and made the most of their chances. Ruvalcaba scored the first goal right at the stroke of halftime in the 45th minute, and New York wasted no time doubling their lead just four minutes into the second half through Cowell's finish. Chicago despite dominating the ball and generated 11 total shots, but they struggled to convert, managing only 2 shots on target against Ethan Horvath in goal.
The Fire's hopes of a comeback were shut down in the 81st minute when Choupo-Moting scored a penalty to make the score 3-0. A tense moment surrounded that goal, with yellow cards issued to both sides in the same minute. Chicago did find a consolation in the 87th minute to make it 1–3 through Cuypers, but it was too little. Philip Zinckernagel and Hugo Cuypers led the attack for the Fire, while Emil Forsberg and Cade Cowell were standouts for New York in what was an impressive road performance for the Red Bulls.
