CHICAGO — The Chicago Fire beat Western Conference leaders Vancouver 3-1 on Tuesday night at Soldier Field. Chicago controlled most of the game from the start. Jonathan Bamba opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a calm and patient finish from outside the box.
It was his first goal since March and only his third of 2026. Chicago kept pressing and earned a penalty before halftime, but Philip Zinckernagel couldn't convert from the spot. He made up for it in the 50th minute, finishing off a quick one-two with Maren Haile-Selassie to make it 2-0.
Vancouver's Mathías Laborda pulled one back in the 73rd minute, which made the end of the game tense. Chicago sealed it in the 88th minute. Robert Lewandowski came off the bench and provided the primary assist on Haile-Selassie's goal, which gave Haile-Selassie a goal and an assist on the night.
Chicago outshot Vancouver 15-9 and put six shots on target to the Whitecaps' two, even though Vancouver had slightly more possession. Josh Cohen also picked up his second win in as many starts in goal. The result moved the Fire to 45 points, past Charlotte FC and into fourth in the Eastern Conference.
