CARSON — Cruz Azul defeated the LA Galaxy 2-1 in an international friendly at Dignity Health Sports Park. Early goals from Luka Romero and Agustín Palavecino gave the Mexican side a commanding lead, while Joseph Paintsil scored late for the Galaxy.
Cruz Azul started strong, opening the scoring in the ninth minute when Romero finished from close range. Palavecino doubled the lead in the 28th minute with a long-range strike into the bottom corner, sending Cruz Azul into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
The Galaxy responded with more attacking pressure in the second half, creating opportunities as they looked to get back into the match. Their efforts paid off in the 84th minute when Paintsil scored following a counterattack involving Troy Elgersma.
Despite the late goal and increased pressure from Los Angeles, Cruz Azul held on for a 2-1 victory, securing the win in another MLS vs. Liga MX matchup in Southern California.
