HOUSTON — Houston Dynamo secured a 1-0 victory over the LA Galaxy this weekend in front of the home crowd. The match served as a special occasion for the club, as Houston hosted its 2006 Championship Celebration Night, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Dynamo’s first MLS Cup championship.

Former members of the 2006 championship team returned to Houston for a special halftime ceremony honoring the players, coaches, and staff who helped establish the club. Guilherme Augusto opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a penalty kick to give the Dynamo a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half featured the debut of Hirving Lozano, who made his first appearance for LA Galaxy. Galaxy midfielder Elijah Wynder exited the match in the 54th minute due to injury, with Isaiah Parente coming on to replace him. Ibrahim Aliyu then received two yellow cards during second half stoppage time, resulting in his dismissal and leaving the Dynamo with 10 players. Despite the setback, Houston held on to the lead and secured the 1-0 victory at home.
