LA GALAXY 1-0 CLUB AMERICA

Dignity Health Sports Park
CARSON, CA — The LA Galaxy returned to Dignity Health Sports Park Saturday night and made it a happy homecoming, holding off Liga MX powerhouse Club América for a 1-0 win in an international friendly. It marked the Galaxy's first match in front of their home crowd in 49 days, and 18,812 fans were on hand to see Greg Vanney's side get the job done.
The lone goal came in the 26th minute, and it was a well-worked sequence from set piece to finish. Marco Reus swung a free kick into the box, Jakob Glesnes rose to flick it into the path of Joseph Paintsil, and the Ghanaian forward made no mistake from close range to beat the keeper and give LA the lead.
From there, the Galaxy backline locked things down, holding one of Mexico's most decorated clubs scoreless the rest of the way for the clean sheet. Reus captained the side and pulled the strings in midfield, while Novak Mićović anchored things between the posts behind a back line of John Nelson, Justin Haak, Glesnes, and Miki Yamane.
The win serves as a confidence boost heading into the business end of the season — LA returns to MLS play Friday, July 17, hosting rivals LAFC at Dignity Health Sports Park for El Tráfico.
