NASHVILLE — Nashville SC will sit at the top of the MLS standings through the League’s World Cup pause, scheduled May 25 - July 16. NSC defeated New York City Football Club 2-1 at home on Saturday night cementing their spot on the board.
Defender Jeisson Palacios got his first goal of the season with a header through the posts in the 17th minute of the match. Moments later, New York’s Malachi Jones draws a foul off of Reed Baker-Whiting in the penalty area sending Nicolás Fernández to convert the penalty in the 23rd and evening the score going into the half.
Back in action, a sequence of firsts in the 49th minute. Bryan Acosta grabbed his first MLS assist with NSC sending the ball across the net for Maxwell Woledzi, scoring his first MLS/NSC goal. Sam Surridge, Nashville’s leading scorer returned to the pitch in the 71st minute for the first time since injury back in April. NSC concluded regulation, 2-1 over NYC, remaining unbeaten all-time at home vs NYCFC.
Andy Najar, Eddi Tagseth, Patrick Yazbek still out for NSC due to injury.
Nashville stays in first place with 33 points heading into the World Cup schedule pause. The Boys in Gold will resume play in the castle July 17 vs Atlanta United FC, 7:30pm CT.
