CHICAGO — The Chicago Fire kept their strong run going with a 2-1 win over Toronto FC at Soldier Field, extending their winning streak to three games heading into the World Cup break.
Chicago picked up a solid home win last night, taking down Toronto FC 2-1 at Soldier Field. Robin Lod got the Fire on the board first in the 22nd minute, with Hugo Cuypers and Maren Haile-Selassie combining to set him up for a clean finish past goalkeeper Luka Gavran. Toronto didn't take long to respond, though, as Josh Sargent leveled it at 1-1 in the 34th minute, blasting home in the upper corner after a nice through ball from Alonso Coello.
The second half is where Chicago took control of the match. Andrew Gutman got the winner in the 65th minute as he headed home a perfectly curled delivery from Philip Zinckernagel to put the Fire ahead 2-1. It was a well-deserved win as Chicago had 7 shots on target to Toronto's 2 and controlled the game for long stretches. The result also extended Chicago's winning streak to three games heading into the World Cup break.
