SANDY — Real Salt Lake hosted Minnesota United on Saturday night at America First Field in front of an announced crowd of 20,119. The match remained scoreless through the first half, but both teams had their moments and kept things interesting. A pair of first-half yellow cards highlighted the physical nature of the contest as neither side was willing to give much away.
The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when Sergi Solans put RSL in front off an assist from Diego Luna. The home crowd erupted, and it looked like RSL was on its way to all three points.
Solans remained a threat in the closing minutes and had chances to extend RSL's lead, but the home side was unable to put the match away. Minnesota took advantage of the missed opportunities, with Joaquín Pereyra finding the equalizer in the 89th minute to level the match at 1-1 and earn the visitors a point on the road.
Even with the late disappointment, the match delivered plenty of intensity and drama, as both sides battled until the final whistle.
