SAN DIEGO — This was a crucial match for San Diego FC. With the playoff race getting tighter, every point matters, and San Diego came into this one needing a result to help claw their way back into a playoff spot. After a disappointing loss to Portland, the pressure was there to respond, and San Diego did exactly that. From the opening whistle, the team looked more energized and determined, putting Colorado under pressure and creating opportunities early. Coming out of the break, the biggest question was whether San Diego could do something they’ve struggled with at times this season, closing out the game. Instead of allowing Colorado back into the match, San Diego continued to push forward and eventually found a third through Gabriel Pirani in the 71st minute. From there, the game felt like it was in San Diego’s hands. The Rapids had chances, but San Diego’s defense stayed organized and kept Colorado from finding any real momentum.
This was a much different San Diego FC side than the one we saw against Portland. The attack looked more confident, the defense stayed composed and, most importantly, San Diego didn’t let the game slip away. With the playoff race so close, this was the kind of performance San Diego needed. It wasn’t just about getting three points, it was about building some momentum at a time when every match becomes more important.
The 3-0 victory also marked San Diego’s fourth straight home win, continuing what has been a strong run at Snapdragon Stadium. There are still plenty of questions surrounding this team, especially when it comes to consistency, but nights like this show exactly why San Diego can still be a dangerous team in the playoff race. Three goals, a clean sheet and three much needed points. San Diego got the response they needed and kept themselves within striking distance of a playoff spot.
