SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders faced Minnesota United for a Saturday night matchup with 32,331 fans in attendance. Minnesota stood in second to last place in the Western Conference while the Sounders were fighting for a playoff contention spot. After last match's win that broke the inglorious 13 game winless streak, Emerald City’s hopes were high for this matchup.
The Sounders took to the pitch with an eager force, with several strong attempts on goal. 16’ minutes in, Jordan Morris puts the Rave Green onto the board. A goal that slides to the left post, just out of reach of Minnesota’s goalkeeper, Callender. Building on that momentum, Hassani Dotson found the back of the net at 35’ minutes, putting the Sounders up 2-0 heading into halftime.
At the start of the second, at 57’ minutes, Minnesota’s Anthony Markanich scored against Thomas, putting their first and only goal on the board. Inspired by the goal, Minnesota ramped up the energy. A back and forth ensued, followed by 3 yellow cards in the half, 2 on behalf of the Sounders, and one for Minnesota. In the 83’ minute, Paul Arriola found the back of the net and the Sounders celebrated another home victory.
