CHICAGO — Northwestern beat UIC 5-2 on Saturday at Flames Field in a game between the two Chicago rivals. UIC held a 15-13-2 all-time edge in the series and won last year's meeting 3-2.
UIC came in on a two-game win streak after beating Western Illinois 2-0 and Loyola 1-0, and it dominated the shot count as they outshot Northwestern 19-7. The Wildcats were the more efficient side, though, putting six shots on target to UIC's four.
The game turned in the second half, when Northwestern scored five goals in just over 20 minutes against a UIC defense that had been allowing just over one goal per game. Addimandi scored the game-winner, his fourth of the season, and Nimrodi added two assists in the win, and Barrett, Millar and Riesz also gave out assists. It was Northwestern's highest-scoring game since a 5-2 win over Wisconsin in February 2021, and it moved the Wildcats to 4-3-1 on the year.
