MIAMI — Inter Miami CF earned a 2-0 victory over Cruz Azul on Wednesday night at Nu Stadium, securing the 2026 Michelob ULTRA Campeones Cup and claiming the club’s first trophy at its new home.
Inter Miami opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Lionel Messi connected with a Luis Suárez assist and headed the ball into the net to give the Herons a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Messi’s 100th goal for Inter Miami.
Cruz Azul looked for an equalizer after halftime, but Inter Miami remained organized defensively. The visitors came close when Gabriel Fernández hit the post, but Miami managed to maintain its lead.
Inter Miami doubled its advantage in the 81st minute. Messi delivered a corner into the box, and Casemiro rose to head the ball into the net, sealing the 2-0 victory and the Campeones Cup for the Herons.
Inter Miami held on through the final minutes to lift the trophy in front of the home crowd, with Messi contributing a goal and an assist in the club’s championship victory.
