LOS ANGELES — The United States Women’s National Team earned a strong 2-0 victory over Brazil on Sunday night, highlighted by the return of Trinity Rodman and another impressive performance from Alyssa Thompson.
Rodman wasted little time making an impact in her first national team appearance since the Olympic final, scoring just five minutes into the match after a dangerous attacking sequence created by Thompson. The United States controlled much of the first half with quick movement and aggressive runs forward, while Brazil slowly grew into the game and tested the American defense with several chances.
Brazil pushed hard early in the second half, but the United States stayed composed and doubled the lead after converting a penalty midway through the half. Thompson nearly added another goal later in the match, but Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena came up with one of the best saves of the night to keep it from becoming 3-0.
The win gave the United States another confident result against one of the world’s top teams while also continuing to build chemistry between veteran players and younger talent.
