CHICAGO — Chicago Fire and Inter Miami settled for a 1-1 draw on September 9th at Soldier Field, and the game could've gone either way. Chicago grabbed an early lead in the 10th minute through Lewandowski and looked like the better team for a while, but Miami came out in the second half and drew level just three minutes in through a header from Casemiro, with Messi getting the assist. From there it stayed 1-1 no matter how hard either side pushed.
The scoreline really doesn't show how one-sided the game was, as Miami had 54% of the ball and fired off 16 shots to Chicago's 8, putting 9 of those on target compared to just 2 for the Fire. If not for a huge night from keeper Chris Brady, who came up with 8 saves this would probably have ended up a comfortable Miami win instead of a draw. Messi and Suárez started together up top for Inter Miami, while Lewandowski led the attack for Chicago. Things got heated along the way, with five yellow cards shown between both teams. A draw felt like a fair outcome given the run of play, even if Miami will feel like they let two points slip.
