LOS ANGELES —LAFC earned the extra point in Leagues Cup play after defeating Chivas Guadalajara in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw through 90 minutes. Both teams created quality chances throughout the night in a fast-paced match that featured strong goalkeeping, dangerous counterattacks, and an exciting finish from the penalty spot.

LAFC found the breakthrough late in the first half when David Martínez played a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Denis Bouanga. The Gabon international timed his run well before slotting his finish past Raúl Rangel to give the Black & Gold a 1-0 lead. Chivas responded quickly, though, as Roberto Alvarado found space in the middle of the penalty area and finished calmly to level the score just minutes later before halftime.

The second half was evenly contested with both sides pushing for a winner. Martínez was one of LAFC's biggest threats, using his speed and dribbling ability to create several dangerous opportunities, while Thomas Hasal came up with key saves to keep Chivas from taking the lead. Neither club could find the decisive goal in regulation, sending the match to a penalty shootout.

The shootout stayed close until Hasal made a crucial save in the sixth round to give LAFC the advantage. Seventeen year old Jude Terry stepped up with a chance to end the match and confidently buried the winning penalty, sealing the shootout victory and earning LAFC the extra point in front of its home supporters.
