LOS ANGELES — LA Galaxy edged out Real Salt Lake 2-1 in a back and forth match that had moments of control, frustration, and late drama at Dignity Health Sports Park.
LA Galaxy started strong and got their moment early through Marco Reus, who delivered a clean free kick that set the tone. It looked like Galaxy might take control from there, but they didn’t fully capitalize. Real Salt Lake grew into the match and found an equalizer just before halftime after a dangerous run and cross led to a chaotic finish that bounced in off the post and goalkeeper.
The second half felt more open, with Real Salt Lake arguably looking more dangerous for stretches. Galaxy struggled to maintain the same intensity they showed early, and Real Salt Lake created multiple chances that forced JT Marcinkowski into key saves. There was also a controversial moment in the first half where Salt Lake could have argued for a red card, but play continued.
Despite not fully controlling the game, Galaxy found their winner through Reus again, this time from the penalty spot after a late sequence in the box resulted in a call from the referee. He converted calmly to give Galaxy the lead.
Real Salt Lake pushed late and had opportunities to level the match again, but couldn’t find the final touch. The LA Galaxy held on to secure the win, a needed result as they look to build momentum.
