NASHVILLE — Nashville SC hosted Charlotte FC Saturday night in a galactic showdown. Fans packed the stadium in costumes, face masks, and light sabers for its theme of the match, Star Wars night. The two teams went head to head just recently on April 11. NSC came away with the win in North Carolina, 2-1.
It was an electric first half at GEODIS Park as the boys in gold found the net twice early on. Hany Mukhtar with a dagger from the center of the box in the 19th minute. Shortly after, Ahmed Qasem followed up in the 25th minute with an assist from Cristian Espinoza and Andy Najar. Charlotte’s M. Agyemang responded in the 42nd minute taking it to 2-1 at the break.
Sam Surridge returned to the pitch in the 57th minute of the match after being out with injury since April 11. Surridge went on to score two for Nashville with a goal from outside the box and another with an assist from Mukhtar. CFC responded once more in the 68th minute.
Hany Mukhtar made history becoming the third fastest MLS player to reach 150 regular-season goal contributions. LA Galaxy royalty, Landon Donovan holds the record for 151 goal contributions in 178 matches.
NSC earned 3 points Saturday night taking them to the top of the Eastern Conference leaderboard. Up next, Nashville begins their CONCACAF Semifinal run on Tuesday at home against LIGA MX’s Tigres UANL at 7:30pm local time.
