ORLANDO — Tonight at Inter.co stadium the Lions matched up against New York City FC as Orlando pursued their playoff push as 21,525 hungry fans watched. With 4 games left in the season this matchup could prove to be an important one for Orlando. Currently sitting at 7th they may need to win the rest of their fixtures to cement their spot in the MLS Playoffs.
The match began with Orlando seemingly back to their old ways, allowing an opening goal in the 18th minute to New York's Alonso Martinez. Again the Lions sluggish starts would cost them an opening goal.
10 minutes passed and it felt like the Lions had come out of their hibernation. Revitalized they found their equalizer with a header from who else but Antoine Griezmann. His 13th goal in 15 appearances for Orlando. Halftime arrived at a standstill, 1-1 expecting an electric second half.
Out of halftime Orlando's hunger was still apparent, 4 minutes into the 2nd half they found their goal to put them on top. Martin Ojeda laced a volley into the bottom right corner. His 50th goal for the club, further shattering Facundo Torres record as The Lions all time goalscorer.
That fight that orchestrated the Lions first 2 goals had seemingly discapted the longer the game went on. Orlando let up a penalty that luckily went wide left past the goal but New York's chances didn't end there.
At the death NYCFC let out a final gasp of a chance as the ball fell to the 19 year old Jonathan Shore. He sends it past a flurry of Lions and scores in the 100th minute. As the final whistle blows at kickoff it's heartbreak for Orlando as they may be one step closer to losing their playoff spot. Orlando sits at 8th tied with FC Cincinnati at 42 Points. Orlando faces a tough Chicago team at Soldier Field in what may be a must win game for them. All the Lions fans will watch anxiously as Orlando City makes their playoff push.
