SEATTLE — Seattle Sounders FC fell 2-1 to Austin FC in a back and forth match that remained scoreless through the first half before three goals came in the final 25 minutes. Facundo Torres and Guilherme Biro gave Austin a two goal advantage before Sounders homegrown defender Stuart Hawkins scored the first MLS goal of his career in the 90th minute.
In the first half, the match felt more like a ping-pong game than a soccer match. Quick possession changes, constant back and forth, and shots on goal led to high tensions, ending the first in a stalemate.
Momentum was high when both teams returned to the pitch, Sounders leading the charge to the net, with no real opportunities to score. In the 66’ minute, Facundo Torres found the back of the net. Guilherme Biro followed suit 17 minutes later, putting Austin FC in the lead by 2.
Homegrown Sounders player, Stuart Hawkins, answered the call shortly after, netting the first goal of his MLS career at 90’ minutes.
The Sounders were able to put up 18 total shots, and Austin FC put up 13, resulting in a 2-1 win for Austin FC.
